About the Classes

Those who attended the classes at Everything Under the Moon,  graciously hosted by Melani,  will find the notes for each class you attended at the link provided to you via email. You will be given a password to enter the section of the class you've taken so you can recap your own notes, and you will have a chance to ask further questions using Disqus (https://disqus.com/).  If you don't already have a Disqus account, it's easy to register. Follow the above link and sign up.

Those of you who wanted to attend but couldn't still have a chance to take the class through this website. There is a paypal button at the bottom of this page with the class title and the date the class was taught. In the notes section of Paypal, please leave your e-mail address so I can send you the link to the class page.

In the online classes, you will see a transcript of what was taught in the class, and when possible we will have audio of the class so you will be able to hear what went on during the live class.  Just as with the folks who attend the live classes, you will need a notebook; either spiral, three or more subject, or a binder within which you can separate subjects.  This is the beginning of your book of shadows.

Thanks to all of you who attend this class!

Who Teaches this Class?

This class is taught by Sylveey Selu, also known as Dawn Sevier.

This person is me! I am the current Senior Publisher of Green Egg Magazine, and a lifelong practitioner of Appalachian Granny Magic(k).

I grew up in these Appalachian mountains and was taught all the basics and beyond of AGM by the women in my family. This kind of magic is a lifestyle for those of us born into the multitude of families in the vast areas of the Appalachians. Depending on the region where each one of us was born, and depending on whether we were raised here, our dialect and manner of speech will reflect the area where we were raised.  I've found that those who were raised in these mountains have the best grip on the ways of our families. This isn't to say those raised elsewhere aren't knowledgeable,  but those who have grown up practicing are fluently in the know.  It's something we do every day.

Mountain folk are a peculiar people.

We're not like any other people outside our regions. Often outsiders tend to assume we are stupid, uneducated, or uncouth.   We may have dirt, grease, blood, dust, or any type of mess on our clothes, in our hair or on our hands. We work for a living, often farming the land and raising livestock to keep food on the table. Most of us are poor folk and we don't know any other way of life. We own guns, some of us own a bow and arrows, we own a multitude of knives and all manner of tools with which we use to work the land. We are survivors. We are a mixed lot of Irish, Native American, German, High or Low Scottish, Italian, Norse folk, and a few others who have integrated into our mountain ranges.

One thing we all have in common is the behavior of old magical ways brought with our people who traveled across the big pond to make a new life for themselves.  I teach from the traditions of my own family.  One thing I stress to my students is that AGM is family specific. This means that all families who practice mountain Craft do so a little differently from one another.  Each woman and man have their own ways and this has been passed to their daughters, sons, granddaughters and grandsons. The ways I teach are not the absolute only way to practice AGM, but are reflective of the whole of our Craft.  Appalachian Granny Magic(k) is the oldest form of eclectic practice that I know.  Come join those who are learning the history and practice of this age old way of life.
